I did this illustration a couple of years ago for Reader’s Digest’s Classics, Asia Edition. It was commissioned for the reprint of the original Reader’s Digest’s 1952 article “Cancer by the Carton.” This was the first mainstream print story to state that smoking causes cancer, and blames the rise in the cancer rate on the cigarette industry’s glamorous propaganda. The story was featured in the first episode of Mad Men.
